RECENT TBLP ACTIVITIES

In June 2016, the TBLP produced a Public memorial at the Pico Union Project. Theo’s friends, musicians Peter Yarrow, David Krakauer, Mike Stein, Craig Taubman, Alex Hassilev, Hankus Netsky, Jared and Justin Stein and others performed, and speakers Zev Yaroslavsky, Ed Asner, Rabbi Chaim Seidler-Feller, Lynn Roth, Sevryn Ashkenazi, and Aimee Ginsburg Bikel paid tribute.

PUBLIC MEMORIAL AT THE KAYE PLAYHOUSE IN NY

In collaboration with Partners for a Progressive Israel (and fundraiser for the Theo Bikel Fund for Peace and Social Justice).

With performances by David Broza, Peter Yarrow, Hazzan Mike Stein, Frank London, Lorin Sklamberg, Daniel Kahn, Debra Straus and Jeff Warschauer, Zalmen Mlotik, and The Fiddler on the Roof Alumni Ensemble (musical directors Hankus Netsky and Mathew Lazar), and tributes by Sheldon Harnick, Samuel Norich, Rabbi Amichai Lau Lavie, and evening producers Karen Shapiro and Aimee Ginsburg Bikel.

ONGOING:

  • Stewardship of the Theodore Bikel website; with continual updating and additions of events, photos, clips, music, writings, in depth biographical information and other resource material.
  • Screenings of the film “Theodore Bikel in the Shoes of Shalom Aleichem” on college campuses, museums, community centers, and Jewish schools, with a presentation by the TBLP director, Aimee Ginsburg Bikel. For more information, please contact us.
  • Continuing work with UCLA, the new home of the Theodore Bikel Archives, on making Mr. Bikel’s materials available to the public. An exhibit of the Bikel materials is planned for early 2018.
  • Soon to be released: Short documentary on Theo Bikel’s life- made in conjunction with the Milken Archive.
  • Soon to be launched: an educational unit for High School students on the importance of, and the various ways of, making their voice heard when faced with injustice.
